Land Rover supports Castle Trek

Despite a lack of national supply contract to the British Armed Forces, writes Iain Robertson, Land Rover recognises its value to the community, as the leading manufacturer of 4x4 vehicles that also holds a much-valued place in the military scene.

Let’s face it, Land Rover has no real need to support as many ventures as it does. Its own promotional projects and some of the most enterprising publicity stunts carried out by any vehicle manufacturer in the world are enough to protect its image and guarantee worldwide interest. Yet, its long-standing connection with the British Armed Forces extends considerably beyond mere commercial gain.

It is a stance that is hardly diminished by its support of six courageous walkers that have tackled the 470 miles from Windsor Castle to Edinburgh Castle in the past few days, in aid of two deserving army charities. Needless to say, two Land Rover Discovery support vehicles were behind them all the way, as further proof of that enduring relationship.

The vehicles were provided by Land Rover but the company engendered additional  support from two of its retailers, Marshall Peterborough and Westover Salisbury. The vehicles were essential to the smooth running of the ten-day trek, from the departure at Windsor Castle, to their triumphant arrival on Castle Esplanade, in Edinburgh, as part of the pre-show entertainment that preceded the Royal Military Tattoo on August 7th 2019.

Known as ‘The Castle Trek’, it was a fund-raising walk for two charities, the Household Cavalry Foundation and the Royal British Legion. Four of the six walkers were either current, or former Household Cavalry servicemen, although each of the six ‘trekkers’ admitted to feeling a close personal connection with the causes that the two charities support. Both the Household Cavalry Foundation and the Royal British Legion support the rehabilitation of injured soldiers, whether their ailments are mental, or physical.

Sue King, Jaguar Land Rover’s Diplomatic and Military Sales Manager told us:Jaguar Land Rover is delighted to have the opportunity to support this initiative that aims to deliver awareness and funding for such worthwhile causes. We were totally delighted to congratulate the team on this incredible achievement, sore feet and all, when they arrived in Edinburgh.”

Jaguar Land Rover, much like Forces Cars Direct, is a holder of a Military Covenant, and it offers programmes to support military personnel, including education and employment opportunities. If you dig into our Motoring archive, you will find several examples of JLR’s generosity and commitments in those areas. In fact, over 1,000 former military personnel have been employed by Jaguar Land Rover over the years and the company also offers special military discounts on Jaguar Land Rover models via two of its specialist dealerships, Marshall Peterborough and Westover Salisbury, as well as through Forces Cars Direct and Motor Source Group, our sister company.

We applaud Land Rover for its continued endeavours and hope that you enjoy some of the photographs that were taken at Balmoral Castle (the Scottish home to HM The Queen) and at the Wallace Memorial, near Stirling, another Scottish town renowned for its connections to militaria and an historically important castle.

MSG Summary

Land Rover’s on-going support of our Armed Forces gives all of us a happy glow. We do our bit by supplying all manner of vehicles to both serving and former military personnel and their families, at the most heavily discounted rates that we can negotiate.
