Motor Source Group Supports LIVES at the Dragon Boat Festival 2022

The Motor Source Group team traded tyres for oars. On the 18th of June we attended the Dragon Boat Festival 2022, making a big splash both on the water and at our stall.

The Dragon Boat Festival returned to the banks of the Brayford in Lincoln after taking a two-year hiatus because of the coronavirus pandemic. Ringrose Law, a solicitors office based in the city, has been organising the event annually since 2016, with more and more business taking part. The goal of the event is to raise awareness and money for Lincolnshire charities by inviting local business to both exhibit and partake in some friendly competition.

The centrepiece of the festival is the titular dragon boat race; teams of 11 race one another in massive boats, with one member keeping the beat with a drum. We had a fantastic time getting competitive on the water against other local businesses, and we congratulate Belton Construction on retaining the title for the third year in a row.

This year’s beneficiary was the charity LIVES, whose volunteers provide emergency healthcare to those who need it across the county. Since the 70s their medically trained and volunteer staff have been supporting 999 staff, with their fleet of ambulances and medical equipment solely funded by public donations. The cost of this equipment doesn’t come cheap, however, making events like the Dragon Boat Festival a lifeline for the charity.

At the time of publishing, the festival has raised over £15,000 - enough to potentially recruit seven new first responders, or fund three of their ambulances for five years. The support will be invaluable to the people of the county.

We at Motor Source Group believe the heroes at LIVES deserve all the funding and recognition they can get. With our goal of giving back to blue light services – including NHS staff – we wanted to do what we could to support them and their mission, including donating to the charity along with promoting them and the Dragon Boat Festival to our audience.

Speaking to the Lincolnite, Alex Bennet – organiser of the event from Ringrose Law – said: “[The festival] was truly spectacular… It was great to see so many local people enjoying themselves down at Brayford waterfront, watching the racing and taking part in the riverside activities. The enthusiasm shown by the crews was superb and we look forward to next year’s event!”

Gemma Summerfield, marketing account executive at Motor Source Group said: “As first-time entrants in this year’s Dragon Boat Race, our Motor Source Team showed just how much grit and determination they had, taking their initial time of 73.58 seconds in the first race down to a fantastic 68.76 seconds in their 3rd and final race which culminated in a Win! Despite the wet weather it was an amazing event to be a part of in support of LIVES, who give up their time to provide Emergency Response cover across Lincolnshire. It was an honour to be able to help them continue their amazing work.”

MSG Summary

We had a fantastic time, both on the water and on our stall, talking to families about how we want to help emergency services members and teachers get great deals on new, used and leased cars. A massive thank you to both Ringrose Law and LIVES for their hospitality – we’re eager to get return next year!
