Sportier Hyundai Tucson receives N-Line treatment

Not wishing to be left out, with its New Tucson N-Line, Hyundai Motor is offering customers a growing range of attractive N-Line choices, states Iain Robertson, which will continue to build its brand relevance in a hectic SUV/crossover sector.

After launching N-Line successfully in 2018 with the i30, Hyundai is expanding its dynamic trim level to provide a sportier impression to customers, who also desire the convenience and comfort of an SUV. Tucson is the best-selling model in Europe for Hyundai and is positioned right at the heart of the brand. Available in three powertrain variants and in both 2WD and 4WD forms, the New Tucson N-Line provides family-friendliness for daily drivers.

In addition to the 2.0-litre CRDi 48V (mild-hybrid; 182bhp) diesel engine introduced in the revised Tucson of last year, Hyundai has now combined its efficient and responsive mild hybrid technology with the 133bhp 1.6-litre CRDi diesel engine, offering fuel consumption reduced by up to 11%. The technology comprises a 0.44 kW/h 48-Volt lithium-ion polymer battery, a Mild Hybrid Starter Generator (MHSG), an LDC converter (Low Voltage DC/DC) and an inverter. The 2.0-litre CRDi variant is the punchiest of the new Tucson’s powertrain line-up. Yet, not far behind is the 174bhp 1.6-litre T-GDI petrol powertrain that makes up the trio of engines available, all of which meet the latest Euro 6d Temp emissions standards.

However, the N-Line models are significantly more than just an enhanced appearance, as both steering and suspension systems have been upgraded to provide an even more engaging driving experience. With a need to combine modest sophistication with the more sporting intent, the latest model’s exterior and interior design elements have been inspired by high performance N treatment. The dynamic design elements are complemented on both turbo-petrol and the strongest diesel models by refined motor driven power steering and judiciously-adjusted suspension settings for a more sporting drive. The new springs on top Tucson N-Line trims offer 5% greater rigidity in the setup of the rear axle and 8% more on the front end, while software changes in the steering give a more direct but still linear feel at the helm.

Redesigned bumpers and a dark mesh-pattern grille framed by dark chrome provide a strong first impression up front. Dark grey 19.0-inch diameter alloy wheels, allied to  door mirror housings and a rear spoiler in glossy black add further emphasis of the car’s sporting stance. Black-bezel headlamps, carrying an unique daytime running lights signature and LED design, and darkened window frames, in combination with body-coloured door handles, also create a more dynamic look for the Tucson N-Line.

Inside the car, consumers can enjoy N-branded leather and suede sport seats and red accent stitching on the steering wheel, dashboard and seat materials. Alloy pedals and the leather-wrapped, red-accented N gear shift lever are also part of the N-Line enhancements. The New Tucson N-Line is designed, tested and built in Europe and it is available across its various markets in nine different body paint options.

MSG Summary

Hyundai, like its sister company Kia, is enjoying immense consumer interest at the moment and this new N-Line series of enhancements can only serve to bolster that image. Speak with your adviser to be kept up to date on prices and discounts available.
