You’d better watch out, Skoda Kodiaq is in hot pursuit!

The Kodiaq vRS offers police forces more than just power, states Iain Robertson, as, based on the Kodiaq’s original seven-seat layout, the SUV has been converted to offer excellent levels of space, pace and payload capabilities ideal for policing.

The pursuit vehicle conversion of the Kodiaq incorporates 360-degree visibility thanks to powerful LED signal lights that are built into the front windscreen, grille, tailgate and number plate pedestals, all of which are complemented by a 100-amp triple-tone siren. Moving other drivers out of its way, when it is lit-up like a Christmas tree, is going to be the least of Kodiaq’s issues.

Regular Police Patrol Officers always travel with bulky, heavy kit and it is a relief to them that a comfortable drive can be provided. The vRS version of the Kodiaq, Skoda’s full-size SUV, has them catered for, with electrically adjustable, Alcantara-trimmed sports seats complete with memory function, which is practical at shift-changes. The SUV also features Dynamic Chassis Control and progressive power steering as standard equipment for a more fluent driving experience. The vehicle’s fully connected interior features the 10.25-inch digital Virtual Cockpit display, which is driver programmable, and SmartLink+ for seamless smartphone integration.

Aligning with the brand’s ‘Simply Clever’ philosophy, planning is already underway to include control of the blue light and emergency services communications system using the integrated touchscreen display on the dashboard. As such, it will be one of the neatest emergency services installations available.

As a high-performance SUV, the Kodiaq makes an imposing addition to blue light fleets on the road, as a result of its striking design, which includes 20.0-inch diameter Xtreme alloy wheels, gloss black paint finish on both the radiator grille and the door mirror caps, twin exhaust pipes, vRS sports bumpers and the firm’s trademark red brake calipers. Allied to the visual strength is Skoda’s strong reputation for dependability. Its power unit is the most potent bi-turbo diesel engine in the range, which develops 237bhp and can despatch the car from 0-60mph in around 7.0s, even fully laden with gear. Although its maximum speed is given as 136mph, if a light bar is fitted on the roof, it will scrub a few miles per hour off, by worsening the aerodynamics.

Henry Williams, Head of Fleet at Skoda, commented: “The high-performance credentials of the Kodiaq vRS make it a powerful addition to the pursuit vehicle line-up. It offers power, a precise drive and good visibility to other drivers on the road.
